Lena sketch by foolyguy Lena sketch by foolyguy
I had lots of freetime on Sunday, so I ended up sketching up my character Lena (that's the girl who hangs with Fooly) There's lots of concept work in here, that will be reflected back in the comic, but I won't be going into any of it.

I'm really glad how far my pencil skills are coming these days, I was able to do ALL this without any ink at all. I'm hoping I will never need to use ink again if I can keep this up :airborne:

The image is pleasing overall, but I dunno about the eyes, I'm always conflicted on choosing either the traditional large round eyes found in anime, or going for some more realistic eye designs as you should may have seen in some of my other works.

I really wanted to extend more on the background, but my creativity ran out there, which is why it came out so incomplete.

Done all in .5mm Mechanical pencil

Very nicely done. Your skills with a pencil are improving greatly. Glad to see all your practice is finally paying off. I love the amount of detail you put into this. It really stands out and your artistic style is beginning to stand out a lot more in your art. The wrinkles, anatomy, everything; it's all flawless. I envy your skills with a pencil. Keep up the great work. Hope to see more from you soon.

You didn't ink that? ..... oh how I envy you. If I could be done with inking I'd be most pleased.

Kind of an interesting turn here, for me anyways since I interpeted this girl to be more of the typical "girly girl" (for lack of a better term) from her previous apperances but here I get the sense of more of a tomboyish inventor type. That could just be me though.

Very nice of course, I am really starting to grow quite a bit of interest for this story :D

Well we will see what you say in the final result. Don't forget the story is indeed getting tweaked. Some things will stay others will be left behind. Understand that potentially nothing can be safe.

...Whoa, no ink at all? Dang. Practice makes perfect, I guess. :D
This is great, man. Good work!

I don't see any mistakjes here, if there then I didn't see them. Is it mne, or is she a little older than she is in the Fooly comics?

No the age is still the same, though this is the first picture with a significant close up on her.

How old is she anyway?

It's ironic that when I typed mistakes, I made a typo and somehow added a 'j' in there!

I apoligize for neglecting to answer this question x_x Her age is a little conflicted on what is should precisely be, but no younger than 9 or older than 13 would be the basic range.

The exact age is yet to be decided, but for the moment 9 is what will *probably* be the final decision on her age.

Don't worry about it Fooly. Thanks for answering anyway.

BTW, what do you think of my avatar? Only took a few minutes in PhotoShop!

I'll bet, and while its interesting, and a unique approach, I feel its a little too flat (which I don't know if you mind or not) I just feel you could liven the eye with more color and lighting (study some eye work etc, and see how intricate the color and reflection can be at times, to see what I mean.

...

I should really update my avatar.

Really nice job on this one. I see you like to create some choas in your pictures. Your emphasis here is pretty clear though (size and all). I think you should use a few more think and bold lines but its not like you need them. Your lines your very sensative and are almost like caligraphy

Very nice job :)

What I'm trying to accomplish, (and not too well yet) with my line work, is to use thick bold lines, for outlines of whatever is closer to the "camera" or "point of view". And thinner one's for whatever is far away.

Wow, that's very good. I love the amount of detail in the shading. Seems to me that there's a bit too much white space in the upper half of the picture, well compared to the lower half anyway.

Yah, but as I've metioned in the description, my creativity basically ran out for the background, where most of this shadows you refer to be missing would be.

Thanks a lot for the comment ^o^

No, but your hitting really close. That's her jacket, but would be the inspiration to his clothing choice. *note* on the jacket as well is a design of a swan which is further reference to pieces in the comic.
