FMA-Edward Elric-INKS by foolyguy FMA-Edward Elric-INKS by foolyguy
NOTE: This is a WIP, its just this took me already a couple days, for the pencils and inks (not to metion the tons of sketches before this) and it will still be a while before a complete color job is finished on this. So to make me art site a little less dead, I decided to submit the lineart.

I won't bother trying to explain who this is for those who never heard of Edward Elric before, or understand what FMA stands for.

Done on Bristol Paper, done with .7 mechanical pencils, inked with 01, 03, and 08 Microns

Full-Metal Alchemist is property of Square-Enix

Not bad. A real load of detail in it, gotta give you credit for that. The problem i see in it is the disproportioned body, chest and head too big and the robotic hand is too small. Other than that everything looks cool, i see you tried to make the enviroment like that of an abandoned building/palace/temple. The effects you are making for all look good except for the elecrticity on the centre of the spear that, in my opinion should spread and dissolve better on the edges. Last but not least: I havent seen enough FMA to be sure about this but shouldnt the mechanical leg be on the other side? correct me if im wrong.

mechanical right arm and left leg. Also I've come to realize some bits are dissporportional, but to be fair Ed's a dissporportional person already. Look at him >>> [link] His head is half the size of his body oO. So I dunno I know proportions are wrong here, but they were never really right in the first place.

As for the electric effect in the center of the spear, I agree looks icky, but Im gonna be playing with all effects digitally, so let's see it I can't fix that.

He is disproportioned alright, but that is because hes an anime character. Most of anime characters can be considered disproportioned or exagerated in their physical features but that helps to define their personality better.

How long did this take? It's very good as usual, but soemthing keeps bugging me about the proportions, they seem fine yet I can't help but think there's something with them. Maybe it's just me.

Its is quite confusing. Ed REALLY is a short person, but here it looks arkward. I dunno I proably have some things wrong, and some things right, and they just don't fit together.

Maybe, but it is a little tricky to get short people the right size, not hard though. I recently tried drawing Xiaolin Showdown's Omi, and he seemed a bit over his normal height.

The picture isn't all bad though, loads of detail and I wouldn't expect anything less from you.

This'll look neat. And you can't go wrong on that detail.

..

Although he's a bit... off somehow... Something strange with the legs and arm...

Bah, still neat.

no your right, I'd go further into, but I'm tired of repeating the same remark. Look as the past comments on this piece and see what I mean.

Love the detail on the background, that's really great. And I dunno, maybe it's me, but his head looks a lil big o.o; It's kinda weird seeing him in your style x.x; (And no, I've never really watched the show x.o; )

first there was the endless sketching to figure out Ed's figure which easily would have taken a full day's effort all together. Then I got to the final version, the pencils I think were about 3-4 hours (not sure on the exact) but I KNOW the inking took only two hours, thanks to the paper, and multipul inking tools I had around me.

>^^< Very impressive. Though I think that his head is a bit big for the body. Nya!! You did a terrific job on the details, but I think its the head that makes the rest of the body (especially the legs) seem rather short. >^^<;; But FMA fans know that Ed is short to begin with.....

Ed: WHO ARE YOU CALLING SHORT!!??

PN: ^^; eh-heh.....couldn't resist.....nyaaa...

Glad you got past the simple wow factor to examine the drawing closer. However I know how the drawing looks but I can explain these. Back when I was still first sketching Ed for this, he was looking ten feet tall, and in an effort to make his somewhat comical hieght i tried to keep him short. I don't know if I've achieve that if they do indeed have him looking smaller or if I've overdone that now, and made a figure error. The arms I made cause (as reference in the anime) his artifical arm dosn't grow, so I figured I would show that detail by making his right arm, just a little smaller.

No explanation for the head, upon re-examination I see his head is nearly half the size of his body (minus the legs and waist) and according to the proportions in a figure, the head should only be 1/3 the size of the body, so yep that's no good.

Again thanks for the comment, and careful eye ^o^ keep it up :airborne:

Stunning detail as always. I'm quite fond of the weapon coming out of the ground, looks neat. Hope you don't mind if I mention this but the legs seem kind of short, but if I heard right this guy is suposed to be rather pudgy, am I right? And is it just me or is his left hand considerably smaller than his right?

But depite, awesome job, I'll likely have something else to fav when this is finished :)

Yes he is short, but not incredibly short either. This was really difficult as I orginally kept making him too tall, and now I don't know if I've either captured his likeness or overdone it. As for his right hand, yes, it is smaller, BUT I did that cause it's artifical, and unless its replaced (as represented in the series) his hand remains small while the other grows.

Thank you for the comment, and critique it means a lot to me =D

Oh I see, I didn't realize it was artificial... I thought it was some kind of a armor glove or something. Shows how much I know. XD

Anytime, I always try when I can.:) though I still have some stuff to learn about what's what of course.
